How the writing on Joyful Family Days gets made, what it will never do, and what happens when I get something wrong.
Who writes here
I do, all of it, under my own name. Nothing on this site is bought from a content mill, and there is no byline here belonging to a person who does not exist. If that ever changes it will be said on this page first.
This is not parenting advice
The domain is a family one, so the boundary needs saying plainly. I hold no qualification in child development, education, psychology or family therapy. Nothing here diagnoses anything, and nothing here is a method for your household. There are no age based charts on this site, no sleep or feeding schedules presented as ones that work, no discipline systems, no scripts to use on a child, and no claims that any of it will produce any result in anyone. Where a piece touches something that belongs to a clinician or a teacher, it says so and stops.
Together, not milestones
Every piece here starts from something the household did together rather than something a child achieved. That is the whole editorial line, and it is deliberate: this is not a growth record and my children’s development is not the material. A piece that reads as a milestone log has drifted and gets rewritten.
What my family agreed to
No photographs of my children’s faces, anywhere on this site. No full names, no ages tied to a date, no school, no town. The photographs alongside these articles are licensed stock images of other people. Where a story is really a child’s own rather than the household’s, I ask them first now that they are old enough to be asked, and no is a complete answer. Anything already published comes down on request without discussion.
What is deliberately absent
No scores, no ratings, no best of anything. No invented product cards. No cited research, because summarising developmental studies I am not trained to read is how family writing goes wrong, and a plausible sounding citation is worse than none. No before and after framing of a child. No prices quoted as fact, because they move.
Where confidence comes from
From having lived the week described. If a piece rests on one attempt it says so. If it rests on a thing we have done every Friday for three years, it says that instead, because the two are not the same kind of evidence and should not read the same. What I am describing is one household and it is never presented as what will happen in yours.
Money and independence
Some links earn a commission, set out in full in the affiliate disclosure. No company reads a piece before it goes up, no company pays for coverage or for a conclusion, and a commission has never decided whether something gets mentioned. Several of the pieces here end with us doing less and buying nothing.
Updates and corrections
Every page shows when it was last updated. A revision of substance carries a note about what changed rather than being made silently. I have changed my mind in public on this site, particularly about screens, and those reversals stay up with their original dates.
Telling me I got it wrong
Corrections are welcome and they get acted on. Write to hello@joyfulfamilydays.org, which is a personal inbox that I read, and say what is wrong. If you are right the page changes and carries a note saying what moved.
